Abstract

The fifth largest metropolitan city in Indonesia and the capital of Central Java Province, Semarang City, faces various challenges, particularly in urban spatial planning, one of which is the provision of green public open spaces. In response to this issue, the Semarang City government issued Regional Regulation No. 7 of 2010 concerning the Arrangement of Green Open Spaces in Semarang City. However, the implementation of this regulation in Semarang City is still not optimal. This indicates the potential conversion of land use, which can lead to natural disasters such as flooding during the rainy season. Additionally, the air temperature in Semarang City has increased due to the reduction of green open spaces, especially in the Banjir Kanal Barat area. Therefore, the purpose of this planning and design is to identify the conditions of Banjir Kanal Barat in Semarang, determine the site, activities, and facilities to be accommodated in Banjir Kanal Barat, analyze a futuristic form with references to architectural precedents resembling Banjir Kanal Barat, design the Banjir Kanal Barat in Semarang with an integrated approach between the river space and buildings using a futuristic concept, and plan the design and planning of Banjir Kanal Barat in segmented manner. From this method, it is concluded that the provision of green public open spaces with a futuristic concept is a solution to integrate river space and buildings and address the lack of green open spaces in Semarang City. In conclusion, Semarang City still lacks green public open spaces. Some of the causes include unwise land use conversion leading to natural disasters, underutilization of the potential of green public open spaces by the community, lack of community participation in supporting the provision of green public open spaces, insufficient human resources for implementation, inadequate funding, and lack of government control. Therefore, this writing provides a solution to the lack of green public open spaces through the development located in Banjir Kanal Barat.
