Abstract
The object of this research is the educative aspect of the novel's characters and the subject of this research is a novel entitled A Pair of White Swans for Palupi by Marliana Kuswanti. The primary data used in this study is the novel A Pair of White Swans for Palupi by Marliana Kuswanti. The secondary data from this study are several journals related to research, namely relevant research. The data collection technique in this research is to use library and note-taking techniques. The validity of the data in this study was carried out by collecting data using various techniques that are really appropriate and appropriate to extract the data that is really needed for research. The data analysis technique in this study uses a semiotic reading model, namely heuristics and hermeneutics. Based on the results and discussion that has been described above, it can be concluded that the novel A Pair of White Swans for Palupi contains: (A) The structure of the novel A Pair of White Swans for Palupi has the following structure, namely (1) theme: struggle and hard work, (2) the facts of the story are (a) the flow forward, (b) the characters in the novel A Pair of White Swans for Palupi, namely Upi is a hard worker, father is stubborn, mother is loving, Sarmilah is cynical and generous, Santi and Bonita are hard workers, and Ken is obedient, and (c ) the setting contained in the novel, namely the setting of the place and the setting of the atmosphere, and (3) literary means including the title, the third person point of view of the main actor and the various styles of language found. (B) The educational aspects found are religious aspects, moral aspects, social aspects and cultural aspects (C) The results of research on these educational aspects can be used as teaching materials in class XI high school, namely KD 3.7 Analyze values (cultural, social, moral, religious, and educational) in novels and KD 4.7 Expressing values (cultural, social, moral, religious, and educational) in novels orally and in writing
