Abstract

Adolescents who do self harm overcome their problems using spiritual coping. The purpose of this study is to describe spiritual coping in adolescents who do self harm. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used in this study using semi-structured interviews. The informants of this study were 3 junior high school youth who committed self-harm aged ± 13-15 years. Behaviors of self-harm by adolescents include self-injury, hitting themselves, banging their heads, scratching themselves, preventing wound healing, making medical health worse, self-injuring, torturing oneself with self-destructive thoughts, starving. The data analysis used was descriptive qualitative data analysis by Miles and Huberman. The results of the study showed that the three adolescents did spiritual coping but it was not consistent, before doing spiritual coping the youth did several coping strategies namely doing hobbies, listening to music and sleeping. After the problem occurs and there is a desire to do self-harm, teenagers do spiritual coping that is more consistent, namely worshiping God and having the belief that God is always there, God misses the prayers that are said, God loves and these are all tests from God that must be passed.
