Abstract

Dental caries is a disease of hard tooth tissue consisting of enamel, dentin and cementum which is characterized by the formation of demineralization in the hard tissue of the tooth. Dental caries occurs due to the role of caries-causing bacteria, namely Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguis, Lactobacillus, and Actinomyces. Dental and oral health status of pre-school-age children can be affected by diet, excessive consumption of foods or drinks that contain lots of sugar has been identified as the main cause of caries in pre-school-aged children. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between children's eating habits and the degree of def-t of pre-school children. The research method used is an analytical survey using a cross-sectional study. Sampling used a purposive sampling technique, by examining the def-t index and parents/guardians filling out a questionnaire regarding Child Eating Patterns (Children Eating Bheaviour), with a sample of 400 respondents. The data obtained were analyzed using the Spearman Rank Correlation test with a significance value of p<0.05. The results of data analysis obtained a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05). The results show that there is a relationship between Children Eating Bheaviour and the degree of def-t of preschool children, while the Correlation Coefficient result is -0.734 which indicates that the relationship between Children Eating Bheaviour and the degree of def-t is not unidirectional, meaning that if the Child Eating Pattern (Children Eating Bheaviour) is good then the degree of def-t in children will decrease.
