Abstract

Hospital waste is a toxic hazardous material (B3) which can pollute the surrounding environment. A hospital requires a good Wastewater Treatment Plant so that the outlet output from sewage treatment meets the available quality standards. This study was conducted at PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital type B with a discharge of 80,000 liters of wastewater per day. For now, waste treatment at PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital uses Aerobic and the Rapid Sand Filter & Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filter system which will be compared with the redesign of the waste treatment installation using the DEWATS method. In this study, the method used was the DEWATS design method which has two filtrations, namely the Anaerobic Biofilter and the Aerobic Pond along with the Polishing Pond. This study also produced a feasibility test for wastewater treatment plants for the next 10 years with the parameters of processed waste in the form of COD and BOD5 according to quality standards. There are also steps taken to collect data in the form of daily waste discharge, processing, and processing results at the existing wastewater treatment plant. After the research was carried out, the parameters obtained were almost the same for the BOD and COD of the existing wastewater treatment plant of 19 mg/L with a quality standard of 100 mg/L and 9 mg/L with a quality standard of 30 mg/L, while for the results of the treatment plant the redesigned waste water is 21.4 with a quality standard of 100 mg/L and 7 mg/L with a quality standard of 30 mg/L. It can be concluded that both the existing WWTP and the redesigned WWTP are capable of processing hospital waste for up to 10 years in the future.
