Abstract

The development of science and technology is currently very pervasive in people's daily lives. Not a few people make technology as a tool to support life. The Sukoharjo State Special School is still using the conventional method using only books and blackboards, which has an impact on the progress and attractiveness of student learning. Students with the characteristics of Blind, Deaf, Speech Impaired, Mentally Disabled, and Autism get the same access to education as general students in a special way that complements each other's deficiencies. Learning English is targeted at mentally retarded students for classes equivalent to junior high school to high school, because they feel they are capable of learning it. This study aims to develop an animal introduction English educational game based on an Android application for mental retardation students at the Sukoharjo State Junior High School Special School. The method used to design and manufacture this game is the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) method with an iterative approach consisting of 6 development phases starting from initiation, pre-production, production, testing, to release. The output is an educational game called ZOOPEDIA. This educational game was tested through 2 stages, namely alpha testing using a blackbox and beta testing using the usability testing method. Blackbox testing provides positive feedback indicating the game is running well. Supported by the results of usability testing with the (SUS) method, a SUS score of 84.667 was obtained. This score shows that the ZOOPEDIA game is in the Excellent category with a grade B scale.
