Abstract
Background : Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder caused by the pancreas not being able to produce enough insulin or the body being unable to use the insulin produced by the body effectively. The causal factors of diabetes mellitus are unhealthy lifestyles and lack of exposure to diabetes mellitus knowledge. There is a problem of lack of knowledge of patients given health education. The aim of health education is to determine the effect of health education on reducing blood glucose levels in people with diabetes mellitus. Method : This type of research is quantitative. The research design used was a Quasi experimental design and a pre-test-post-test group control approach. Respondents in this study were 40 respondents with diabetes mellitus in Kartasura District, Sukoharjo Regency. Intake of respondents using purposive sampling technique, respondents were selected according to the inclusion criteria as a sample. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test using SPSS software because the data distribution was not normal with a 99% confidence level or p <0.05 confidence interval. Results: The results of this study showed that there was a significant effect on changes in blood glucose levels in the control group of people with diabetes mellitus in Kartasura District with a value of p = 0.083 > α = 0.05. These results showed no effect. Whereas in the treatment group the value of p = 0.048 < α = 0.05 means that there is a significant effect of health education on changes in blood glucose levels in people with diabetes mellitus in the working area of the Kartasura Health Center.
