Abstract

The existence of cultural contact and language contact between Indonesia and other countries causes absorption words to occur. The loan word is used because there is no exact equivalent word in Indonesian. This study aims to (1) examine the forms of English and Arabic loanwords in translated novels, (2) identify the objectives and their implementation in learning Indonesian. This research is included in the type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach that collects data from the novel The Midnight Library by Matt Haig and the novel Layla Majnun by Syaikh Nizami. The data analysis technique uses the matching and distribution method. The results of the study show that (1) the forms of loanwords found by the writer are basic words used in people's daily lives which are then analyzed and categorized based on the absorption, adaptation, and translation processes. In this case, the researcher did not find a creative absorption process category. (2) absorption words can be implemented in learning Indonesian in SMA Class XI for book review material, namely about the spelling of writing absorption elements. In book review material, students are explained about the elements of absorption, including: the origin of loanwords, the use of loanwords, and the correct writing of loanwords.
