Abstract

The independent curriculum is a restructuring of Indonesia's national education system, bringing change and progress to the nation to adapt to changing times. The independent curriculum is designed to give students the freedom to learn in a flexible and free environment that encourages students' creativity and talents. This study examines the implementation, obstacles, and efforts to overcome obstacles in learning basic accounting based on the Independent Curriculum. This type of research is qualitative research with an ethnographic design. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used interactive analysis by Miles and Huberman including data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study show there are several obstacles encountered. Obstacles in the learning planning process are (1) the teacher's lack of understanding in preparing teaching modules; (2) the diversity of students in the class; (3) limited facilities and infrastructure in schools. The other obstacles in the implementation of learning are (1) the limitations of students' psychological understanding; (2) the restrictions of translation information into language that is easy to understand, exercise, and carrying out outreach or workshops to students' parents. In addition, the instructor uses formative and summative assessment in this evaluation, but the teacher still has difficulty managing time for the assessment to be more successful. In order to address these challenges, the school organized In-House Training (IHT) and seminars.
