Abstract
Self-disclosure is the act of personal information confession about self that other people cannot possibly find out in any other way. Self-disclosure communication directly engaged in an important role for developing personal relationships. This is related to Generation Z who tend to communicate more using social media than spending their time communicating face-to-face in the real world. This research aims to explain how social media is a form of self-disclosure for generation Z whether they do self-disclosure on Instagram as self-identity, existence or just share their daily activities. This research used Johari Window theory to analyze Instagram social media as a form of self-disclosure in Generation Z. Researchers in this research used qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. The results in this research found that there was an expansion in the open area of the five informants. The hidden area in the five informants tends to be smaller but has a wider portion than the blind area. The blind area of one of the informants is wider than that of the other informants. The unknown area quadrant was not so large for the five informants that it did not have such an impact on the self-disclosure carried out by the five informants in this study.
