Abstract
The media construction in describing female characters with regard to gender is quite complex. Stereotypes for women who tend to have feminine characters are often described as weak women who depend on men, physically exploited as objects of sweeteners, and synonymous with domestic affairs. Whereas in reality women are able to do public work and carry out masculine roles that are identical to men's roles. This study aims to determine the audience's meaning in perceiving masculine women in the Korean drama Little Women. The method used is descriptive qualitative by interviewing four informants as active spectators. Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory is used to classify audiences into three positions, namely dominant hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional. The results of this study found that the four informants were in different meanings, namely three informants were in a dominant position and one person was in a negotiated position. Differences in the views of informants are due to differences in educational background, age, gender, and the environment in which the informants live.
