Abstract

Indonesia as a tropical country has a very high flora potential. Heterogeneity or biodiversity, especially the diversity of plants in Indonesia, is an asset that must be maintained. By maintaining the productivity of each plant species, it will have a good impact on the sustainability of life in this agrarian country. However, plant diversity is decreasing and even endangered, especially endemic plants. The decline in the number of endemic plant populations is caused by the limited number of individuals as well as due to over-exploitation of forest land both for infrastructure needs and for building material needs. Therefore, a place is needed to save endemic plants from extinction. The vertical greening system is designed as a form of rainforest imitation as an adaptation of plant endemicity. The biomimetic approach is applied in this design as a form of interaction and evaluation of architecture with nature so as to solve architectural problems in the design of vertical forests in Bekasi City. The vertical rainforest as a place to protect endemic plants from extinction is not only in the form of plant collection land, but also has facilities as a plant research, training and education center.
