Abstract

Surakarta City is one of the most populous cities in Central Java Province. Based on the results of the 2020 Population Census, Surakarta City occupies the first place in the city area with the highest density in Central Java Province. The flow of unlimited population movement in the modern era today makes people migrate from villages to cities. The obvious fact that is happening in the city today is the increasing density, the population is increasing the need for jobs, and the need for housing. Therefore, the government is trying many ways to solve the city's problems, one of which is by relocating residents by building a vertical dwelling. However, the change to vertical housing from horizontal villages had a major effect on the lives of the residents. There are aspects of local culture that are still maintained by the community, including social values. Therefore, it is necessary to create a vertical residential concept that can overcome the problem of overcrowding and accommodate a strong village culture with togetherness. With the concept of tropical architecture, it will use a pattern of building mass arrangement between beams together, that is, the mass of the building surrounds an open space in the middle. Apart from that, applying the zoning concept based on occupant room type, occupant type (children/elderly), and facilities. The building concept applied is a single building.
