Abstract

Culture shock is a state of shock experience by someone when they are in a new environment. Students from Lampung who study at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta are examples of individuals who enter a new environment. Communication accomodation is the ability of individuals to make adjustments, modify or regulate behaviour in response to others. This study aims to find out the stages of culture shock experienced by students from Lampung and find out how to deal with culture shock. The research method use in this research is qualitative with a descriptive approach, by taking 5 student informants from Lampung. The data collection in this study used in depth and semi structured interviews to obtain complete information as needed by the researcher. The results of this study indicate that the majority of informants experienced culture shock at different times. There are 4 phases experienced, namely the excitement phase, the disappointment phase, the initial resolution phase and the effective functioning phase.
