Abstract

The issue of body shaming is still a problem that often occurs in everyday life, even in Indonesia itself the issue of body shaming is still rife. In daily life, body shaming is often inserted in an element of joking and is done intentionally or unintentionally without thinking about other people's feelings. The negative words that a victim of body shaming gets will continue to be embedded in the memory of someone who has experienced it and makes someone who has experienced body shaming lose self-confidence. This phenomenon or issue of body shaming inspired comic Ernest Prakasa to make a film that raises the issue of body shaming entitled “Imperfect: Career, Love & Scales. This film was adapted from Meira Anastasia's novel entitled Imperfect, Meira wrote the book based on her experience of being a victim of body shaming. This study uses reception analysis from Stuart Hall. Reception theory is used to find out how the audience of the film Imperfect who is a victim of body shaming interprets the messages contained in the film. This research method uses qualitative methods by collecting data through interviews. This study uses informants who are victims of body shaming. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling and the validity of the data used by researchers was source triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the audience is in the position of optional and negotiated code.
