Abstract
The existence of film is not only focused on mass media, but is able to become a forum for conveying issues that exist in the public such as issues concerning women, gender equality, humanity and feminism. An example is the story of a woman with the aim of conveying life's messages. Films can represent how a woman's real life portrays, especially discussing the strength of a woman in a social environment. There are many films that convey the meaning of how a woman acts, one of which is a film entitled Samjin Company English Class directed by Lee Jong Pil. Using semiotic theory, this research will dissect how women are represented in the film “Sajmin Company English Class”. In this film, women are represented as a cheap class of workers who can be replaced at any time if they are married and pregnant, but there is also a side of resistance from the women's unions against the company. Using a qualitative research method with semiotic analysis by John Fiske, the result is that at the beginning of the film Samjin Company English Class there are two scenes that explain and show discrimination, the resistance of working-class women is shown in several scenes from the beginning to the end of the film Samjin Company English Class and similarities are found Indonesian women have a point in common with the film Samjin Company English Class.
