Abstract

Soil from Talang Village, Bayat District, Klaten is clay soil with a PI value of 25.74%, so the soil is classified as high plasticity because the PI value is > 17%, so it is necessary to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the soil. Improvements were made with the added material of ceramic powder waste. The addition of a mixture of ceramic powder with a percentage of 0%, 4%, 8%, and 12%, with variations in grain size of ceramic powder No.4 and No.40. This Soil Improvement aims to determine its physical and mechanical properties. The results of physical testing, namely testing the water content of the soil with the addition of ceramic powder decreased, the value of the specific gravity of the soil mixed with ceramic powder increased. In the Atterberg limits test, the greater the addition of the percentage of ceramic powder, the PI value will decrease. The results of the mechanical test obtained the highest maximum dry unit weight value in the addition of 12% ceramic powder No.40 of 1.550 gr/cm3, while the maximum dry unit weight of the smallest ceramic powder mixture in the addition of 4% No.4 was 1.395 gr/cm3. The highest optimum water content value was obtained at 24.89% in the percentage of 4% ceramic powder mixture No.4, while the lowest optimum water content value was obtained in the percentage of 12% ceramic powder mixture No.40 of 22.01%. The results of the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test on the original soil are 2.69%. After the addition of lime and glass powder, the CBR value increased, the highest value was found in the addition of 12% No.40 ceramic powder with a value of 3,67%. For the value of land development (swelling) on the original land of 1.53%. With the addition of a ceramic powder the value of soil development decreases, the smallest soil development value occurs in the addition of 12% No.40 ceramic powder worth 1,20%.
