Abstract

Research conducted to determine the level of risk of work posture in manual material handling activities of rice milling. Work posture itself is a body position when working that adjusts to the activities carried out, so that different work postures have different levels of risk as well. This research is in rice milling at UD Faiz Raya. The methods used are the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) method and the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) method. The NIOSH method is used to analyze postures based on the resulting compression force and recommend a load that is safe to work with. The OWAS method is used to evaluate work attitudes that can potentially cause injury due to repetitive work. Due to the absence of standard postures and ergonomic work aids, workers often complain of experiencing pain in certain parts of the body due to careless posture. The results of the evaluation were improved by proposing 6 proposed postures that were able to reduce the burden of work postures on body parts, as well as the second improvement proposal, namely making SOPs, making these SOPs can be used as guidelines for all workers in doing work and can be a standard for companies and workers who work in rice mills in carrying out activities.
