Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are thinking skills that include critical, logical, reflective, metacognitive, and creative thinking. At present the learning that is carried out in junior high schools is still HOTS oriented. HOTS learning is learning oriented to higher-order thinking skills that invites students to think critically, creatively, collaboratively, and communicatively. One of the media used for HOTS-oriented learning is games, because in it there are visuals that can increase student learning motivation, train thinking skills and improve understanding of material related to HOTS-oriented learning. This study aims to develop online educational games as a medium to support HOTS-oriented learning. The research method used in this study is Research & Development (R&D), a research method used to produce certain products and test the effectiveness of these methods. The research stages used are the ADDIE development model which consists of: (1) Analyze, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation and (5) Evaluation. The participants involved in the study were students of class VIII A SMP Batik Surakarta, totaling 31 students (20 boys and 11 girls). From the results of the trials conducted, it was found that the usability value was 75% which was categorized as "Good" or usable. Thus it can be concluded that this online educational game can be used as a medium to support HOTS-oriented learning for junior high school students.
