Abstract
Background: Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a health problem with a high number of cases in Surakarta City. LBW itself is influenced by various factors including parity and hemoglobin (Hb) levels in pregnant women. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics for Central Java Province, there were 21,001 cases of LBW in Central Java province in 2020. The incidence of LBW has increased in 2021 to 22,240 cases, while LBW cases in Surakarta City have 213 cases where in 2020 there were only 183 cases. This proves that the number of LBW cases that occur in Surakarta City is still quite high (Central Java Provincial Statistics Agency, 2021). Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship between parity and hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with low birth weight in Surakarta. Methods: This study used an observational analytic research design with a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted at PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital from January to February 2023. The population in this study were pregnant women who gave birth spontaneously at PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital in 2022. The sample in this study were 99 pregnant women who were selected using the random sampling. Data analysis techniques used in this study using the Chi-Square test and logistic regression test. Results: Based on the results of the study, it is known that there is a significant relationship between parity in pregnant women and low birth weight babies in Surakarta City. This is evidenced by the large value of Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000(P<0.05). There is a significant relationship between hemoglobin levels in pregnant women and low birth weight babies in Surakarta City. This is evidenced by the large value of Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.018 (P<0.05). There is a relationship between parity and hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with low birth weight babies in Surakarta City with a probability (Predicted) value of 0.265. Conclusion: There is a relationship between parity and hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with low birth weight in Surakarta.
