Abstract

This study aims to describe coping stress strategies in parents in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. This research uses qualitative methods. This study was conducted on parents who already have children. The method of data collection is carried out by interview techniques. The results of this study found that stress can occur because parents experience difficulties encountered in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic such as economic difficulties, difficulty socializing, difficulty interacting. These difficulties eventually become obstacles and cause stress. The symptoms of stress experienced by parents in facing the Covid-19 pandemic are in the form of cognitive symptoms such as being difficult to concentrate due to the burden of the mind. Then emotional symptoms also occur in parents in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, such as emotions that are difficult to control to become easily agitated and anxious. Furthermore, physiological symptoms are also experienced by parents in facing a pandemic period such as changes in appetite and decreased health and the last is interpersonal symptoms, where parents do not see their friends due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To overcome stress, parents apply a stress coping strategy which is divided into two forms, namely emotion focused coping and problem focused coping. Parents will use coping strategies focusing on emotions when they view the condition as difficult to change. Such as choosing to calm down first, think positively, draw closer to God, and seek social support so that you are motivated again. Keywords: Stress, Coping, Parents, Pandemic
