Abstract

PT XYZ is a company engaged in the garment industry. In garment production, it is possible to have problems in the production process, one of the problems that occurs is product defects, especially product defects in the sewing process. Quality control needs to be done to minimize defective products. This study aims to identify the types of product defects, determine the sigma level value of the resulting defective products and analyze the causes of product defects to provide suggestions for problems that exist in the company so as to reduce the level of product defects. The method used is the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) stage by calculating the company's sigma value and FMEA (Failure Mode And Effect Analysis) to recommend improvements to the problem. Based on the results of data processing and data analysis, 5 dominant defects were obtained, namely univen, poor shape, broken stitch, trimming, and open seam with an average sigma value of 3.8 indicating that the sigma level is at the Indonesian industrial average. Based on the FMEA analysis, the proposed improvements to minimize defective products are to provide training and evaluate operators on a regular basis, leaders and supervisors are responsible for motivating employees, conducting briefings before carrying out production, providing lubricating oil on machine parts that have the potential to cause friction which causes noise. periodically, and improve monitoring and checking of machine maintenance on a regular basis.
