Abstract
Virtual self-presentation is a self-development process to shape and build self-identity online. Unlike self-presentation in real space, the impression displayed in virtual space can be distorted by users because verbal and non-verbal behavior cannot be seen directly. In addition, avatar-based social media is currently popular, where users can freely present themselves in the virtual world using avatars. This research aims to find out how ZEPETO users represent themselves in the virtual world by using 3D avatars as the characters they play. Based on the problems studied, the approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with the data collection process carried out through interview techniques, non-participant observation and validation testing using data source triangulation techniques. The theory used in this research is self-presentation theory. The results of this study indicate that users present themselves based on the circumstances or content of messages that show similarities of interest when using ZEPETO, they do so by creating new self-presentations consistently, creating self- presentations in accordance with one's physical self, and creating self-presentations based on the construction of perceptions from others.
