Abstract

Background : Universal precautions are a strategy by the Central Committee for Disease Control and Prevention in an effort to prevent infection and disease transmission among health workers (PPI). The spread of infection can occur due to decreased knowledge and behavior of dentists regarding the importance of self- protection equipment in practice. Purpose: to review the universal precautions of dental practice in fixed orthodontic treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Secondary data was obtained from Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed which matched the keywords of 50 published journals. Journals are filtered again based on title, abstract and keywords. Results: Lack of applying universal precautions to fixed orthodontic dentistry practices during the COVID- 19 pandemic so it is necessary to study in order to achieve a reduction in the severity of COVID-19 by providing insight into knowledge and observing the behavior of using complete personal protective equipment in dental practitioners or clinics. Conclusion: universal precautions in the practice of fixed orthodontics or other dentistry practices are an important aspect especially in a pandemic situation that is still not implemented which will cause losses, namely the risk of transmitting the dentist on duty to the patient.
