Abstract
: Iliotibial band syndrome is lateral knee pain in athletes. The repeated friction of the iliotibial band and lateral epicondyle in 30° flexion and extension of the knee can cause inflammation in the contact area of the iliotibial band. Currently the cause of iliotibial band syndrome is unclear, but one theory is that repeated friction between the iliotibial band and the lateral epicondyle during flexion and extension causes inflammation at the contact area of the iliotibial band syndrome. Risk factors that can cause this case include running on hills, cycling, wrong shoes, mistakes in exercise techniques, and sudden changes in exercise intensity. Manual intervention therapy can have a direct effect on cases of iliotibial band syndrome which can help reduce pain, reduce stiffness, and improve physical function. Objective: to determine the effect of manual intervention therapy for pain, range of motion, and functional activity in patients with iliotibial band syndrome. Methods: quantitative research, this type of research is Pre Experimental with a case series study approach and uses a research design in the form of a Time Series Design. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, observations, interviews and specific tests. Respondents amounted to 5 people. The research instruments used to measure the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) for pain intensity, goniometer for range of motion of joints, and Foot and Ankle Disability Index (FADI) for functional activity. Data analysis technique using descriptive analytic. Results: Based on the results of manual intervention therapy in the form of stretching the gastrocnemius muscle, traction on the ankle joint, repositioning the fibula bone, stretching the quadriceps muscle and performing physiological movements of the knee namely flexion and extension of the knee, it has a good effect in reducing pain in the knee, increasing the range of motion knee joints, and increase the patient's functional activity. Conclusion: in patients with iliotibial band syndrome, manual therapy interventions in the form of stretching, strengthening, traction, repositioning can reduce pain intensity, increase joint range of motion, and increase functional activity.
