Abstract

Background : Various health problems in the elderly arise, including functional body problems that cause problems in the activities of the elderly and also reduce the ability of pancreatic beta cells to produce insulin which results in unstable glucose in the body. The optimal level of blood sugar levels affects movement and physical, psychological, social and well-being which is defined as quality of life. Objective: To determine the relationship between fasting blood sugar levels with physical activity and quality of life in the elderly at the Melati 4 elderly Posyandu, Delanggu Klaten, Central Java. Method: Observational research by designcross sectional used in this study. A total of 50 elderly members of the Posyandu Lansia Melati 4 Delanggu Klaten as the population in this study and 44 people were selected as the research sample based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Furthermore, the results of the study were tested using a characteristic test, the normality test shapiro wilk, and correlation testbivariate pearson. Results: As many as 9.1% of respondents included in the pre-diabetic category, and 31.8% included in the high or diabetes category. More than half of the respondents have normal physical activity (61.4%), and most of the respondents have a good quality of life. The results of the Pearson correlation test showed that there was a relationship between blood sugar levels and physical activity (p: 0.001), with a correlation coefficient of (-0.798), meaning that when fasting blood sugar levels increase, physical activity decreases. The results of the study also showed that there was no relationship between blood sugar levels and the 4 domains of quality of life p value each of 0.062, 0.230, 0.612, and 0.503. Conclusion: There is a relationship between fasting blood sugar levels and physical activity, but there is no relationship between blood sugar levels and quality of life in the elderly at Posyandu Melati 4 elderly, Delanggu Klaten, Central Java with a correlation coefficient value for domain I of (0.690), for domain II is (-0.185), domain III is (-0.079), and domain IV is (-0.104) with insignificant characteristics withp-value as well as with weak correlation criteria.
