Abstract

The background of this research is because today there are many children who have bad behavior, such as disobedience to parents, reluctance to help parents, being spoiled, hard to advise, likes to argue and so on. If the problem is left unchecked and the child does not get the right parenting style, it will have a negative impact on the child's character. Of course this is not wanted by anyone, let alone by parents. Therefore, parents must try to form a child's character well. The objectives of this research are (1) to describe the upbringing of farmer families in shaping the character of children in Dusun Manjung Kulon Wonogiri (2) to describe the inhibiting and supporting factors of farming families in shaping the character of children in Dusun Manjung Kulon Wonogiri. This research was conducted in Manjung Kulon Hamlet, Manjung Village, Wonogiri Regency. The type of research that will be carried out is field research. The approach to be used in this study is a phenomenological approach. In obtaining valid data to support research needs, researchers used observation, interview, and document study methods in the data collection process. The data analysis technique that will be used in this study applies data reduction techniques, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Then to ensure the validity, technique triangulation and source triangulation are used. This study resulted in the conclusion that both parents apply democratic parenting styles. And parents shape the character of children by giving affection and setting an example to children. Parents also provide educational assistance and teach independent living to their children. Inhibiting factors such as character, social environment, and technology. Supporting factors include the family environment, parents, and certain people who have the same insight as us.
