Abstract

Internet as a digital media has offered convenience for every user along with the times. Adolescents' closeness to digital media requires literacy skills in accessing smartphones and media. Media literacy is a basic ability to understand media from the aspects of its use to the messages it conveys. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which media literacy skills are acquired by the youth of Terung village. Using the concept of Sonia Livingstone's Media Literacy theory, to determine the extent of ability to access, analyze, evaluate and produce media content. The method used in this study is the qualitative description. Data collection was carried out through interviews, and technical data validity using source triangulation. The results of the study show that the ten informants' mastery and understanding of media literacy are still far from proficient. This study shows that informants as users have motives in using smartphones and media. And it can be concluded that media literacy in the youth of Terung village is still at an early stage. At this stage, the informant has the ability in the form of access to using smartphones and media.
