Abstract

This article aims to identified the types of speech errors and factors that cause speech errors in CNN Breaking News. This study used a qualitative approach. The data was taken from the CNN Breaking News YouTube video script. The technique for collecting data was used documentation technique. Data analyzed using content analysis and using theoretical framework by Clark & Clark (1977) to analyzed type of speech error and Kafifah & Aini (2020) framework to analyzed the cause of speech error. The results showed that there were eight types of speech errors, the most type of error was filled pause, silent pause, repeat, stutters, correction, false start (retraced), interjection, and the least that was false start (unretraced). This study also found factors that cause speech errors, namely cognitive factors, psychological factors, and social factors. This study bring implication in language production in social media interaction.
