Abstract

Brazing is a joining process in which the base metal is heated to a suitable temperature above 450°C and by using a ferrous or nonferrous filler metal which must have a liquidus temperature above 450°C. The results of testing the SEM and EDX microstructure photos after the soldering process experienced grain changes due to several factors including material characteristics, temperature, and welding level, besides that the soldering process between aluminum and stainless steel materials with the addition of SiC powder of 0. 05 grams there is a phase change. In the interface region, grain boundaries are clearly visible between the parent metal aluminum and stainless steel. The hardness value in the area of weld metal joints without powder addition was obtained at 117 HV, while with variations in the addition of SiC powder the results were 366 HV. The effect of adding powder has results that are not far from without adding powder, this is because when soldering SiCpowder and filler both melt and can bind perfectly. The highest tensile strength was in the variation without the addition of powder with a stress of 0.10 MPa and a strain of 0.020 (2%), while in the variation of the addition of SiC powder, a higher stress yield of 0.11 MPa and a strain of 0.065 was obtained. (6.5%). The effect of the addition of SiC powder has an effect on the results of stress and strain specimens which causes the joints in the specimen to become stronger.
