Abstract
Background : Stress as a psychosocial risk experienced by individuals influences several aspects. Increased stress as a psychosocial risk for health workers is a serious matter and cannot be underestimated, because it has long-term psychological effects. Nurses have a high prevalence of work-related stress. There are 67% of health workers such as hospital heads and supervisors experiencing high stress in health services, while work stress on nurses has the top ranking of forty cases of work stress in Indonesia. Purpose : The aim of this study was to explore the psychosocial experiences of nurses in caring for patients in the Covid-19 Hospital ward. Method : This type of qualitative research with a Narrative Inquiry design. The research was conducted in a special inpatient room for Covid-19 sufferers at UNS Surakarta Hospital from November 26 to December 9 2022. The number of samples was 25 nurses who during the handling of Covid-19 at UNS Surakarta Hospital worked in the covid-19 ward, determined based on purposive sampling technique. Results : The results of the study show that nurses who work and care for patients in the Covid-19 ward experience anxiety. From the research, the themes were obtained, namely anxiety, professional behavior, spiritual approach, avoidance coping mechanisms. Conclusion : This study shows that nurses who treat patients in the Covid-19 ward at UNS Surakarta Hospital experience psychological changes, namely anxiety, fear, worry, and shock.
