Abstract

HHO gas is a product of the electrolysis which is decomposition of water molecules (H2O) into hydrogen dan oxygen molecules using by a HHO generator. The characteristics of flammable hydrogen gas and oxygen that help the combustion process make this gas can be used as an alternative fuel. This study aims to determine the effect of adding HHO gas with variations in the type of dry cell generator and wet cell generator on the performance of a 4 stroke combustion engine with performance indicators including Torque, Power, and Specific Fuel Consumption. The addition of HHO gas is done by being injected through the intake manifold into the combustion chamber. The method used is experimental and testing is carried out using the Dynotest tool to obtain data in the form of Torque, Power, and Specific Fuel Consumption on a 4 stroke combustion engine. The results showed that the addition of HHO gas with variations in the type of generator wet cell and dry cell resulted in a decrease in torque of 2.5% from standard conditions. Peak power performance has decreased by 1.3% from standard conditions. The value of Specific Fuel Consumption under standard conditions is better than after the addition of HHO gas.
