Abstract

Background: A constant increase in systolic blood pressure > 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure > 90 mmHg is a diagnosis of hypertension. The relationship between lipid levels and hypertension has been well documented. Non-pharmacological therapy such as aerobic exercise and resistance training can be used as an optimization of the body's lipid profile levels. Purpose: the purpose of this study was to summarize the effects of aerobic exercise and resistance training to normalize lipid profile levels in hypertensive patients. Methods: A total of 19 respondents were enrolled in a quasi-experimental study without controls consisting of pre- and post-test designs, the data from the results of the study were then analyzed using SPSS version 26. Results: for the normality test of the Shapiro Wilk Post Test in the Resistance Training intervention group p=0.037 < 0.05 where the data was not normally distributed, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test was used to test the effect of the aerobic and resistance training treatment group values obtained p = 0.093 (cholesterol), p = 0.110 (HDL), p = 0.022 (LDL), and p =0.139(triglycerides) and the different effect test of the two groups obtained values of p=0.369(cholesterol), p=0.391(HDL), p=0.288(LDL), p=0.624(triglycerides). Conclusion: Exercise that combines aerobic exercise and resistance training is effective in reducing cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL levels in people with hypertension. However, it did not have a significant effect on the levels of the lipid profile and there was no difference in effect.
