Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-esteem with the adjustment of overseas students. The subjects in this study were 153 students who migrated at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The measurement tools used in this study are the emotional intelligence scale, the self-esteem scale, and the last scale is the self-adjustment scale. The data obtained were analyzed using multiple regression analysis to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-esteem with the self-adjustment of overseas students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be seen that the F value is 124.047 and the sig. of 0.000 (p <0.01) which states that there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and self-esteem with the self-adjustment of overseas students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Subjects in this study had emotional intelligence in the moderate category, self-esteem in the moderate category, then self-adjustment in the moderate category. The effective contribution made to self-adjustment was 62.3%, with details of emotional intelligence contributing 3.1% to self-adjustment and self-esteem contributing 59.2% to self-adjustment, then as much as 37.7% was influenced by other factors that had not been examined.
