Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that is still widely found and is one of the deadly cardiovascular diseases. The prevalence of hypertension cases in Indonesia is increasing every year. Knowledge of hypertension complications as well as blood pressure control behaviors needs to be carried out to improve the prevention of stroke and other complications. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about hypertension complications and blood pressure control behavior in people with hypertension with comorbidities. This research belongs to correlative descriptive research. The population in this study was all hypertension sufferers with comorbidities in July-September 2022 who had been registered at the Baki Health Center, Sukoharjo with a total of 80 people, Sampel in this study was 50 people using the purposive sampling method. The criteria for respondents are people with hypertension with comorbidities such as DM, gout, heart, cholesterol, and kidneys who are 34-70 years old and willing to fill in questionnaire. The research used measuring instruments in the form of knowledge questionnaires and behavioral questionnaires that had previously been tested for validity and reliability. This study used a non-parametric test because the research data was not normally distributed. Hypothesis testing using the Spearman Rank test. Based on the analysis and discussion, this study can be concluded that: 1) the level of knowledge of hypertension complications is mostly good (58%), 2) blood pressure control behavior is mostly good (62%), and 3) there is a relationship between the level of knowledge about hypertension complications and blood pressure control behavior in hypertension sufferers in the Baki Sukoharjo Health Center area. (p-value = 0.001). Research advice for people with hypertension with comorbidities is to improve the knowledge of hypertensive patients so that their behavior to control their blood pressure becomes even better.
