Abstract

The development of the city is increasingly dynamic, causing a spread towards the suburbs (urban fringe). This condition is reflected in the changes in the resulting morphological appearance, in transitional areas with changes in the structure and characteristics of rural areas to urban characteristics. The research objectives achieved were 1) identification of morphological forming components consisting of land use, road networks, shape and density of buildings in Gentan Village and Makamhaji Village in 2010 and 2021, 2) to analyze urban fringe morphological patterns in Gentan Village and Makamhaji Village in 2010 and 2021. A spatial approach that utilizes remote sensing data in the form of satellite imagery. Data processing techniques with the stages of image interpretation, digitization on screen, overlapping, and comparative or comparing the results with reference to the components forming the city morphology. The components forming the morphology in the form of land use have land characteristics towards being built with heterogeneous functions dominated by settlements and trade in services with a pattern of following the collector path. The road network component has a spinal pattern on collector roads, which branch out in settlements with a grid-dominated pattern. Medium to high density buildings tend to approach collector roads and the City of Surakarta, with heterogeneous building shapes whose basic shapes are square and rectangular, especially in residential buildings. The morphology formed shows an elongated pattern, which has a central area in the form of trade and service land use with a pattern following the collector road. The level of building density is directly proportional to the distance based on the regional center and Surakarta City.
