Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic non-communicable disease. This disease is most often experienced by the elderly because the elderly will be more likely to experience a decrease in physical performance caused by physical, psychosocial, fundamental and profound changes. This chronic disease is caused by both primary and secondary factors. Elderly with hypertension often suffer from other diseases, comorbidities that are often experienced are diabetes mellitus, gastritis, gout arthritis, dyslipidemia, rheumatoid arthritis. Such circumstances certainly make the elderly have anxiety and result in sleep disturbances. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between anxiety levels and sleep disturbances in elderly people with hypertension and comorbidities. This type of research is quantitative with correlational research methods. This study involved 56 elderly hypertensive respondents who had comorbidities. The sample in this study was carried out using a non-random sampling technique with a total sampling method from all elderly hypertensive respondents with comorbidities. The results of this study were carried out by cross tabulation tests (crosstabs) first, then statistical tests were carried out using a software application in the form of the Spearman Rank test because the research data were in ordinal-ordinal form. Based on the results of the study, it was found that there was a relationship between anxiety levels and sleep disturbances in elderly people with hypertension and comorbidities at the Kartasura Health Center, Sukoharjo with a significance value of 0.001 less than 0.05, so there was a relationship between anxiety levels and sleep disorders, with a correlation coefficient value of 0.548 which means it has a strong correlation and a unidirectional relationship. Based on the results of this study, it was obtained that the number of respondents was 56, the majority of whom were aged 60-64 years and were female for the most recent education, namely only elementary school graduates. The average duration of hypertension is 1-5 years with the majority of comorbidities, namely diabetes mellitus. Common problems experienced by respondents were mild anxiety with poor sleep quality by 21 respondents (37.5%).
