Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a growth problem caused by inadequate intake and continuous infection in the first 1000 days of life and it causes growth disturbance. Stunting is associated with several factors, including nutritional status and poor maternal health status during pregnancy. Mothers with a history of anemia in pregnancy are more at risk of giving birth to stunted babies. Another cause of stunting is low birth weight or LBW. LBW increases the risk of disease, and increases the risk of stunting in early life up to childhood. The prevalence of stunting at children under five years in the Sempor II Health Center work area in February 2022 is still relatively high, with a prevalence of 14.14%. Objective: This study aimed to determine the correlation between history of anemia in pregnancy and low birth weight with stunting in children. Methodology: This study used cross-sectional design. The data that used for the study was collected from weighing record of February 2022 and the KIA Register. The population of this study was all mothers and toddlers who were in the working area of the Sempor II Health Center as many as 1.202 toddlers. The number of samples in this study was 88 samples with a sampling technique using stratified random sampling. Result: In this study, there were 37,5% samples who were stunting, 20,5% of samples who had history of anemia in pregnancy, and 14,8% respondents who had a history of low birth weight. P value for the history of anemia in pregnancy was 0,682 and p value for the history of low birth weight was 1,000. Conclusion: There was no correlation between history of anemia in pregnancy and low birth weight with stunting for the children under five in the working area of Puskesmas Sempor II.
