Abstract
The cultivation of religious character in a person is very important for every individual, especially for children who are expected to become human beings who have noble character, are civilized, carry out their obligations, and are useful for the nation and state. It is not enough to instill religious character in children only at school, TPQ also acts as a means to instill religious character in children. Ustadz have a role in instilling religious character in children, especially in rural areas. The aims of this research are: (1) To describe the role of ustadz in instilling religious character in children at TPQ Darul Amal. (2) Describe the supporting factors and inhibiting factors of the role of ustadz in instilling religious character in children at TPQ Darul Amal. This research uses field research with a phenomenological approach which is included in qualitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique in this study involved three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study are that ustadz play a very important role in instilling religious character in children at TPQ Darul Amal. The role of the ustadz in cultivating religious character is: the ustadz as a teacher, educator, trainer, adviser, and guide, the ustadz as a person, and the ustadz as an evaluator. The supporting factors for the role of the ustadz in instilling religious character in children at TPQ Darul Amal are: parents, self-motivation, the community environment, then enthusiasm and sincerity in the ustadz. Then the inhibiting factors are: the lack of ustadz to teach at TPQ Darul Amal and the level of understanding of parents' religion also influences the lack of understanding of children when at home.
