Abstract

Abstract Jihad is the great Shari'a commanded by Allah to all His servants. Jihad has the meaning of being serious in carrying out actions in order to elevate the sentence of Allah. In its journey the word jihad is often interpreted textually and narrowly so that what emerges is an understanding of jihad which leads to acts of violence. Such an understanding is wrong because it eliminates the purpose of jihad itself. As a result, Islam is seen as a religion of violence and is contrary to the essence of Islam as a religion of mercy. Efforts to realign the meaning of jihad continue to be echoed, among others, by taking advantage of the progress of the digital world. Ibtimes.id is a digital channel that tries to show the face of moderate Islam as in understanding jihad. This study aims to find out the meaning of jihad as narrated on the Ibtimes.id website. This research is a type of library (library research) with a qualitative approach. Data was collected by documentation method and analyzed by content analysis method. The results of this study are that jihad in Ibtimes.id has four meanings, namely; a) Jihad in war which is interpreted defensively, b) jihad as an effort to build civilization, namely by improving the quality of life, c) responsive jihad, namely the contextualization of jihad according to the demands of the times, and d) literacy jihad as an effort to treat intellectual and scientific knowledge.
