Abstract

Freedoom to learn is the freedom of an educational institution to be able to create a learning atmosphere that is democratic, flexible, innovative, and fun. With independent learning, students will be more comfortable in learning, more able to determine attitudes, take action and make decisions more independently. This study aims to examine theoretically the conceptual role of teachers in the development of differentiated learning management, namely (1) preparing learning plans (formulation of objectives, materials, methods and techniques, media and learning evaluation, (2) organizing students in classical learning and group learning, (3) actualizing and motivating students in learning, and (4) assessing (formative and summative evaluation) learning achievement. This study uses qualitative research methods, carried out in class IV SD Negeri Gemolong 3, Sragen Regency. Using interview, observation, and documentation data collection techniques, then the data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman including data collection, data reduction, presentation data and conclusion. The results of the research include the preparation of differentiated learning plans in thematic learning as a whole in accordance with the principle of developing lesson plans. However, the teacher in seeing student learning readiness is less specific, because it is only monotonous like an academic pretest and is less varied. How to organize differentiated learning in thematic learning starting from mapping learning needs, making learning that attracts students to be more active in learning, motivating to the stage of helping students overcome psychological problems doe well and ffectively. The strategy of differentiated learning teachers in thematic learning in this study focused on the differentiation of content and processes, but for content differentiation it only produced simple products like learning in general students were able to solve the given evaluation questions. One of the challenges of differentiated learning in thematic learning is that the creativity of teachers in packaging the material provided must varied and innovative. The formatov and summative evaluation assessments of learning achievement in learning are in accordance with the assessment in general, it’s just that teachers need to learn a lot of open-ended questions, so that students are free to express themselves so that they are in accordance with the definition of free learning and differentiated learning in thematic learning.
