Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is one of the problems that hinder human development globally. Currently there are around 162 million children under the age of five experiencing stunting. The prevalence of stunting in the working area of the Jumapolo Health Center in February 2021 was 9,06% with a target of <5%, so this is still a problem that must be overcome. Providing basic immunization and exclusive breastfeeding contributes to the prevention of stunting in children under the age of five. Objective: This study aimed to find out whether the history of basic immunization and exclusive breastfeeding is a risk factor for stunting in children under the age of five in the working area of the Jumapolo Health Center, Karanganyar Regency. Methodology: Research used a case control design. The research population was toddlers aged 24-59 months, the sample used consisted of 31 stunted toddlers (case group) and 31 non-stunted toddlers (control group). Data collection was carried out using a purposive sampling method. Stunting data was obtained from direct measurements of the height of children under the age of five, data on the history of basic immunization and exclusive breastfeeding were obtained from the book Maternal and Child Health (MCH). Results: Children under the age of five with a history of incomplete basic immunization in the case and control groups were 16,1%. Children under the age of five with a history of non-exclusive breastfeeding were 35,5% in the case group and 19,4% in the control group. Based on statistical analysis using the Chi-square test, a history of basic immunization (OR 1,000; 95% CI 0,258-3,871) and exclusive breastfeeding (OR 2,292; 95% CI 0,722-7,277) were not risk factors for stunting. Conclusion: A history of basic immunization and exclusive breastfeeding were not risk factors for stunting. Recommendation: It is hoped that health workers will routinely provide education related to nutritional intake to women of childbearing age, pregnant women, and mothers of toddlers to prevent stunting.
