Abstract

The process of distributing the electric power system carried out by PT PLN certainly always prioritizes reliability for the needs of its consumers, so with that there is a need for a reliable electric energy distribution system. In order to prevent disturbances that may occur, preventive efforts are needed to prevent interference, one of the disturbances that is beyond prediction is the presence of lightning strikes that can disrupt a network. Therefore, this study aims to determine the network protection system due to lightning strikes. Arresters have a major role in network protection due to lightning strikes, arresters in the field have good protection which can be observed in the calculation of the rated voltage arrester value of 21.12 kV and discharge current of 3.94 kA and the protection distance in the field is still within tolerance limits. In addition, lightning strike protection also uses a ground wire in order to reduce interference on the network, the use of ground wire on the network has proven effective in reducing the effect of lightning strike disturbances. In indirect interference it is reduced by 24.8% and 12% for direct lightning disturbances. The grounding condition at the time of measurement is in good condition where the resistance value does not exceed 5 ohms. When a lightning strike occurs it can cause a short circuit disturbance in the network and this situation can be harmful to the environment around the network, so an arc flash analysis warning due to a short circuit is needed by knowing the value of the fault current and the level of risk category. Simulation results at ETAP 12.6 on feeder KLN 09 are in the level 2 category in determining the arc in the network.
