Abstract
The aim of this research is to describe the strategies of school principals in improving school quality and the impact of these strategies on school quality. This research method uses a type of field study using a qualitative point of view, a descriptive model using interview techniques, observation and documentation studies. The following research has data sources, namely the principal, vice principal in the student affairs sector, the curriculum sector and the infrastructure sector. The results of the following research are the strategies of school principals in improving school quality using hierarchical, transformational and facilitative strategies by Zacher, Hannes, and Emily Johnson. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out, it shows that the strategy implemented by the principals of SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Surakarta and SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo is a transformational and facilitative strategy. The principal's strategy for improving school quality includes developing curriculum, teachers, students, facilities and infrastructure. The strategy formulated by the school principal was carried out effectively and efficiently and was very influential for improving school quality. The strategy made has been adapted to the needs of the school. The impact of the strategy on school quality can be seen from achievements in both the academic and non-academic fields.
