Abstract

Hypertension or high blood pressure is still a health problem throughout the world where the prevalence is increasing every year. Hypertension is the third biggest risk factor that can cause premature death and complications such as heart failure, stroke, kidney disease and brain disorders. The increase in hypertension is caused by several risk factors such as smoking, excessive salt consumption, unhealthy eating patterns, lack of physical activity, stress and overweight/obesity. The purpose of this study using a literature review approach was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards hypertension diet in hypertensives. In this literature review, the relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards hypertension diet was searched through the GARUDA portal, Google Scholar, and PubMed. The keywords used to search the literature were “pengetahuan”, “sikap”, “diet hipertensi”, “diet rendah garam” “pola makan hipertensi”, “knowledge”, “attitude”, “dietary hypertension”, “dietary adherence”, and “dietary compliance”. Based on the search results, the researcher found 21 literature on the GARUDA portal, 28 literature on Google Scholar, and 56 literature on PubMed. The screening results obtained 6 literatures that match the inclusion criteria and are indexed by Scopus and SINTA. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards hypertension diet. The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the knowledge and attitudes of hypertensive patients had a positive and significant effect on hypertension diet. It is important to increase knowledge and attitudes regarding hypertension diet for hypertensives so that patients can carry out hypertension diet properly to reduce the severity of hypertension and the risk of complications due to hypertension.
