Abstract

Mount Kemukus is Prince Samudro's last stopover. The popularity of Mount Kemukus is inseparable from the great name of Prince Samudro. Mount Kemukus has a famous religious tour, namely the Ngalap Berkah religious tour at the tomb of Prince Samudro. The management of Mount Kemukus is supported by the local government and related parties to make the Mount Kemukus area a religious tourism area that has economic value. The tradition of the Ngalap Berkah pilgrimage at the tomb of Prince Samudro has become a commodity, seen in the procession of ritual activities that are displayed and organized by the tourism manager to attract the interest of the wider community, then the pilgrimage tradition has been commodified into an entertainment. The process of commodifying ritual activities into entertainment includes the Ngalap Berkah pilgrimage tour of the tomb of Prince Samudro, Suronan, Wayangan, Tirakat, Larap Slambu. This study aims to determine the commodification of culture in Ngalap Berkah religious tourism on Mount Kemukus. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method using the commodification theory. Data obtained through in-depth interviews and related documents. The data analysis used is the data analysis model of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the commodification that occurs on Mount Kemukus is a development in the tourism sector as well as growth for the local community. The procession of the Ngalap blessing ritual becomes a show of economic value. This commodification was carried out without eliminating the authenticity of the ancestral identity of the Javanese people.
