Abstract

Background: The increase in the number of elderly causes health problems in the elderly, the decrease in various organs in the elderly triggers various degenerative diseases, one of which is hypertension. To control hypertension in the elderly, motivation is needed for treatment in the elderly. The motivation to seek treatment is influenced by the knowledge possessed by the elderly. the higher the level of knowledge of the elderly about hypertension, the higher the motivation for treatment of elderly patients with hypertension. Objective: to determine the relationship between knowledge and motivation for treatment in elderly patients with hypertension at Karanganyar Health Center. Methods: This type of research is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. The research was conducted in the working area of Karanganyar Health Center. The population of this study amounted to 368 elderly. The sample collection technique was accidental sampling and obtained a sample of 79 respondents. The method of collecting data is using a questionnaire. data analysis method using the sperm rank test. Results: Characteristics of respondents based on age, the majority of respondents are aged 71-80 years (old seniors), the majority are male with high school education and work as private employees and still have a partner (married). The majority of respondents never smoked, never consumed alcohol and had no complications. The level of knowledge of the elderly with hypertension at the Karanganyar Public Health Center was sufficient as much as 50 (63.3%). The motivation level of hypertension sufferers in Karanganyar Public Health Center is 48 (60.8%). The results of the sperm rank test obtained p = 0.373 and p-value 0.001 so that there is a relationship between knowledge and motivation to seek treatment in the elderly at Karanganyar Health Center. Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge and motivation to seek treatment in the elderly at Karanganyar Health Center
