Abstract

This study aims to find out how Gibran Rakabuming building persuasive messages by using persuasive messages as a candidate for Mayor of Solo on his Instagram @gibran_rakabuming. The theories used in this research are Elaboration Likelihood Models (ELM) from Petty and Cacioppo. With a quantitative content analysis method, the researcher used 84 samples on @gibran_rakabuming Instagram posts from November 2019 - October 2020 to be analyzed. This study uses a simple random sampling technique due to the homogeneous population. This study uses content validity and Cohen Kappa in testing its reliability. The results show that Gibran also makes good use of the message formats that can be loaded on Instagram to carry out persuasive messages on the central route and peripheral route. Messages with a strong argument type are used by Gibran as a central route in persuading messages. Meanwhile, the peripheral route taken by Gibran in order to do a persuasive message is through things that are attached to the content such as the type of content, the topic of the content, and the layout.
