Abstract

The steam generator power generation system is an important element in the supply of electrical energy which will later be distributed to consumers. The generator safety system when working needs to be supported by a safety guard to maintain the stability of the electrical energy produced. The safeguard is a reverse power relay which is useful for keeping the generator from changing its function to an electric motor. The purpose of this research is to find out how the reverse power relay system works and to know the reverse power relay settings on the generator at PJB Paiton Generation Unit. Methods of data processing and data analysis taken at the location consisting of generator data, reverse power relay data, and looking for references in journals related to this research. The data that has been obtained is then used to perform mathematical calculations manually. The output at the switching point relay G60 must be adjusted to -0.17727%, so that it responds to the generator return power at 5% (corresponding to 20102.5 kW if the generator is on 402050 kW power). The maximum current generated by the generator is 15171 A, and for the reverse power relay setting with a value (-5%) with a delay of 5 seconds at the limit of the maximum current flowing in the relay is obtained at 900 A. The field setting of the switching point is adjusted to -0, 10636%, so that it can respond to generator return power at 3% (corresponding to 12061.5 kW if the generator is active at 402050 kW). The maximum current on the generator is 15171 A, and for the reverse power relay setting (-3%) with a delay of 4 seconds the maximum current limit flowing in the relay is 540 A. The conclusion that can be obtained from these results, the greater the setting on the reverse power relay, the what is obtained is reliability but there are risks that arise in the equipment, conversely if the setting is smaller then when synchronizing there is a difference in readings on the reverse power relay, but the equipment will be more secure.
