Abstract
Optimization is a process to achieve an ideal result from something that already exists. This study aims to optimize the CNC Router machine, which is to improve the set up time on the CNC machine to minimize the set up time that occurs with the limited tools and conditions owned by the UMS Industrial Engineering laboratory. The Single-minute exchange of die (SMED) method is used to analyze the machining flow data and machining results. The steps in research using the SMED method include the first step, namely making observations to find out the real conditions of the production system on a production floor under study. Then generalize to the types of activities, both internal set ups and external set ups, so that it can be seen which types of work are included in the two types of set ups. Next change the internal set up to an external set up. The final step is to simplify operations on each internal set up activity that cannot be converted into an external set up by making continuous improvements and analyzing the need to make supporting tools from the results of theset up type conversion. Optimization is carried out by changing the set up activities on the CNC machine, which was originally from an internal set up to an external set up, then the results of this comparison resulted in a decrease in internal setup time of 82.4% and a decrease in external setup time of 94.4%.
